How To - Prime a wall ready for topcoat

Have you ever had your bedroom or living-room wall paint peel off your newly plastered walls weeks after you have painted them? Or would you like to prevent that from happening?

Then you'll be interested in this easy and simple method of doing just that.

TOOLS YOU WILL NEED

  1. A Roller kit - if you don't have one then click link https://tidd.ly/3tzmAXT

  2. Matt Emulsion / Contract Matt Emulsion - https://tidd.ly/3FjsaA2

  3. Some water

It's important you use the correct consistency to prime your walls and that you thin it down (water down) between 10% - 50% - some decorators recommend even more, but this maybe a bit too much. If your tin of paint says Vinyl Matt or Vinyl Silk Emulsion and you try and cheat this step then you will have problems especially with any silk products.

It's also important to use the correct paint. Just because your tin may have "contract paint" written on the side doesn't mean it's bad paint to use. Contract paint has it's uses and this is one of them. As seen in the video you'll need to cover the whole wall area including the edges.

When done properly you should see your paint soak into the plaster and it won't be long before you can apply your desired finish and colour topcoat.
